House Republicans have subjected Google’s parents alphabet for registrations regarding the alleged censorship of YouTube content by Biden administration.
The Chamber Judicial Committee, led by Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio, “continues to investigate how and to what extent the Biden-Harris administration forced or clashed with other companies and intermediaries, including the alphabet, to censor lawful speech.”
In his letter to the Director General of the Sundar Pichai alphabet, Jordan claims that the Federal Government pressured YouTube to censor some legal content, including the material “that did not violate YouTube content moderation policies.”
The discussion are Biden’s administration efforts to announce social media services about misinformation on their platforms, especially as it had to do with Covid-19 Pandemia and the vaccine. Republicans argue that this reaches censorship, and immediately after its inauguration, Trump signed an executive order aimed at “restoring freedom of speech and the conclusion of federal censorship,” arguing that the administration used the pretense of “misinformation” and “misinformation” to violate free speech rights.
However, last year, the Supreme Court ruled that the White House should be allowed to contact the social media companies for the content they believe they can be harmful, as long as they do not force companies to remove it.
In August, Meta General Director Mark Zuckerberg told the Chamber Judicial Committee that he thought “pressure [from the Biden administration] It was wrong and I’m sorry we were no longer open to this. “However, he admitted that” after all, it was our decision whether to go down or not, and we possess our decisions. “
Jordan tells Zuckerberg’s statement in his letter to Pichai. “The alphabet, for our knowledge, has not similarly denied the efforts of the Biden-Harris administration to censor the speech,” he says. “To inform the legislative reforms to protect the civilian freedoms of the Americans, the Committee must fully understand the extent and nature of the censorship of Biden-Harris administration.”

In a statement to Reuters, Google says it will “continue to show the committee on how we implement our policies independently, rooted in our commitment to free expression”.
Meta, meanwhile, has been in love with Trump since November, getting rid of official facts in favor of the community notes model used in X. The company donated $ 1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund and Zuckerberg participated in the inauguration. (Google and Pichai did the same.)
